Vegetable Moong Dal Soup for Babies

As soon as the cold weather begins to kick in, Moms start looking for winter-specific recipes that are warming. Most such recipes make use of seasonal ingredients and a good deal of spices that are both warming and healing. Today we have a healthy and nourishing recipe for the winter – Vegetable Moong dal soup! It is easily digestible and filling. This protein rich soup can be added to a baby’s diet after 8 months of age.

Vegetable Moong Dal Soup for Babies

Give your little one this nutritious vegetable moong dal soup that has the protein rich moong along with healthy vegetables, making it perfect for winter!

1. Heat water in a sauce pan. Add the moong dal and chopped vegetables to it.

2. Boil or pressure cook until well cooked.

3. Puree either with a hand blender or in a grinder jar. Transfer the puree to a sauce pan (if using blender). Dilute with water.

4. Season with black pepper and give it a boil. Turn off the flame.

5. Add few drops of lemon juice if desired. Serve warm.

Vegetables like bottle gourd, carrot, potato, tomato can be either stir fried in a little ghee and then cooked with the washed and soaked moong dal or can be boiled with the dal straight away. You can try either method to see which one your baby likes. The spices make this a comforting light soup for babies. You can also skip the pepper and add a pinch of jeera powder instead.

  • 2 tablespoon moong dal, washed and drained
  • ½ cup of chopped or grated vegetables of your choice. ( I have used , carrots, bottle gourd and potato)
  • Pepper powder to taste
  • Few drops of lemon juice (optional)
