Sesame Laddus (Til Laddus/ Ellu Urundai/ Ellunda) are traditional sweets made with sesame seeds & jaggery and are quite popular across India. Sesame seeds are an excellent source of calcium & iron and also provides oodles of energy for growing kids. This sesame laddu recipe is very easy to make and makes a great healthy snack for kids, and being Mom-made, they’re better than any store bought laddus! Sesame seeds are among potential allergens, so I would recommend trying this sesame seeds laddu only for kids over one year, but please consult with your pediatrician just to be sure.

- Ghee – 1 to 2 tsp (optional)
- Broken cashews – 1 tsp (optional)
Directions:
1. Measure and keep all ingredients ready. Dry roast the sesame seeds in a pan until they crack and nice aroma comes. Switch off the flame once the sesame seeds turn brown.
2. Grind the roasted sesame seeds to a slightly coarse powder for 5 to 10 seconds. Then add powdered jaggery, peanuts(if using) and cardamom to the blender.Grind again for a few seconds until the sesame seeds, peanut and jaggery are well blended.
3. Transfer everything to a plate or bowl, add broken cashews and mix well. Break any lumps formed with your fingers. You can skip the ghee if the oils released from sesame seeds & peanuts are enough to roll them into balls.
4. Roll the mixture into laddus till all the mixture is used up. Store them in an air tight container once done. The laddus last well for a week at room temperature.
Your healthy calcium-packed sesame laddus are ready!
Adding ghee to the ground mixture is purely optional, as the oil released from sesame seeds & peanuts are usually enough to roll them. But you can use ghee if you find the mixture a little dry; it also gives a nice fragrance to the laddus! Before introducing these laddus to your baby, be sure to check with your doctor. As with everything, follow the 3-day rule before starting anything new in your baby’s diet. Once you get the go-ahead, let your child enjoy them to his heart’s content!
