Ragi Buttermilk Recipe – Refreshing Summer Drink

Before we know it summer will be upon us, and many of us would have already begun to start planning for our kids’ activities. Because, during the summer vacation, the last thing we want is, to have our kids sitting at home and getting bored.

The next big thing, that we parents worry about our kids is their diet, we always worry too much about whether they are eating right and getting the right nutrition required for their growth. Especially the vacation time is the time when it becomes less controllable because of the lack of regular schedule, compared to the school days where they have everything scheduled and organized.

Furthermore, even if we could make them eat, we are not sure if the kids are eating food that are appropriate for the weather. Especially in summer it is equally important to have the kids well hydrated and maintain a well-balanced diet, to avoid all the health hazard that could be caused by heat and dehydration.

For this reason, I recommend Ragi buttermilk. Before I jump into the recipe, let me give you a background about the Ragi as a cereal.

Benefits of Ragi for Children

Ragi is also called finger millet, one of the popular millet varieties that is consumed by many cultures. Because of its unique goodness and packed with nutrition. This millet is a good choice to be included in our diet.

  1. Since Ragi is rich in Calcium, it helps in strengthening of bones in growing children.

Now to the recipe, Ragi buttermilk is a well-known dish from Indian culture, the dish is simply made with Ragi and buttermilk. The combination packs in a lot of nutrition and goodness, while it’s not boring or being tasteless. Usually the dishes that tastes good are not very healthy or vice versa. Fortunately, this buttermilk solves that problem, making it a good choice for kids.

Since this can be consumed as a drink, who can quickly make your child a drink. Instead of running behind your child to make him/her to sit and eat. Or worry about whether they are chewing the food and so on. As this recipe is so simple and easy to make in less time, it is also a good choice for parents as well.

But the main purpose of this recipe, is to make this drink for summer. Kids tend to dehydrate a lot more than adults, especially during summer. Instead of giving all those artificial beverages and juices, which are harmful to kids, try this healthy Ragi buttermilk. Buttermilk is always a great natural drink to reduce heat from our body and help us to keep hydrated for longer time. When Ragi porridge is mixed with the buttermilk, it serves as a healthy drink for kids, helps to keep them hydrated, feel fuller for long time and energetic.
