Rice flakes, also known as poha or aval constitute a pretty popular ingredient across India. There are all kinds of dishes you can make with these, both sweet and savory. However, substituting the white rice flakes with brown rice flakes takes up the nutritional quotient significantly. One such recipe is kheer, which I generally make from white rice, but which turns out really well with brown rice flakes too!
Brown rice flakes are low in cholesterol, high in dietary fiber, vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and iron. They are very good for people suffering from or at risk for heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol as well as for weight loss and post-menopausal health.
